Björn Thoroddsen

Björn Thoroddsen is one of our very best guitar players.

He began his career in rock, as many young people do. He studied guitar in Iceland and later at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles (1982).

Björn has played all over the world and taught master classes in many parts of the United States and Europe.

His career has brought him divers recognition in both Iceland and other countries. For example, Björn was Gardabaer’s Town Artist in 2002. He was Jazz Performer of the Year in 2003, Jazz Composer of the Year in 2005, honoured by the International Asso-ciation for Jazz Education and received FÍH’s (Association of Icelandic Musicians) Gold Medal in 2011.

Björn has released many discs under his own name and played with most Icelandic musicians. In addition, he has played with world-famous musicians like Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Didier Lockwood, Kazumi Watanabe, Philip Catherine, Lar-ry Coryell, Al Di Meola, Martin Taylor, Ulf Wakenius, Tommy Emmanuel, and Robben Ford.

Björn works on recordings and concert performances with equal ease, in Iceland as well as other countries.
