Jón Rafnsson

Ever since returning to Iceland from Sweden in 1990, Jón has been a very active participant in the Icelandic music scene, performing classical music and jazz, playing in dance bands, for theatre shows, and taking part in several recordings.

Jón studied double bass with Professor Thorvald Fredin at the University of Music in Stockholm, Sweden and is also a qualified music teacher with a degree from the Institute of Music Pedagogy in Stockholm (SMI).

Jón has performed and recorded with some of the world’s leading jazz musicians, including Philip Catherine (Belgium), Didier Lockwood and Sylvain Luc (France), Kazumi Watanabe (Japan), Jørgen Svare, Kristian Jørgensen and Jacob Fischer (Denmark), James Carter and Larry Coryell (USA), Richard Gillis (Canada), Ulf Wakenius and Nils Landgren (Sweden).
